In their latest video for "Monkey On A Wire" - the second single from the upcoming 'Rattlin' Bones' (Sugar Hill Records) -- Kasey Chambers Shane Nicholson are performing in picture frames and in the windows of skyscrapers while an animated protagonist and a monkey try to escape the confines of the corporate world.
While the footage of Kasey and Shane is live, the rest of the video is cleverly animated in black and white and follows the story of a man dissatisfied with his factory-like office - as illustrated in an early scene reminiscent of "Another Brick in the Wall." He is liberated from this miserable existence by a "monkey on a wire" - who captures his attention and leads him to freedom. When the main characters cross over the threshold from their glass and concrete prison, the video switches from black and white to color in a move inspired by 'The Wizard of Oz.'
Australian director Natasha Pincus muses: "The design of the video was executed with a purposefully positive tone, suggesting - in line with the song's lyric - that there is a monkey on a wire within all of us, urging to be released."
